Saturday Jan 25, 2014: Today was packing day for the Amazon. My day began with sorting through my dozens and dozens of fly boxes. My cupboards are labeled and I do have dedicated Amazon boxes, but some of my deceivers are in saltwater boxes and I have some other good streamers in with my Alaska and Mongolia boxes. As I rifled through the boxes I suddenly remembered I had some great whistlers in with my tarpon flies and some lethal spun deer hair streamers in with my golden dorado boxes. It takes a bit of time to sort thru it all. At some point you just have to stop and remind yourself, "You've got enough!"

After the flies, it was time to load reels, choose rods, find spare lines (WFF and T-200 &300 for this trip), grab appropriate leader material (33,44 and 50 lb. fluoro), repair kits and all that other stuff.

It takes a good day to find all the there little things you don't want to forget.
Tomorrow its camera gear, Go-pro gear and clothing! I'm getting there, slowly but surely!

Isn't it fun when you realize you've got too much damn stuff and start picking through it finding things you really don't need on the trip, and you swear THIS is the time you're going to make a packing list so you don't put yourself through that again. Never happens though!

LG NaCl H2O??? What're you, a closet chemist? This resurfaces the old dilemma of how to store flies. By destination? That works for some flies but like you said, big streamers could be used in the Amazon, Seychelles, Christmas Island, Mongolia... Store them by fish type works for some - like trout. Bonefish flies work pretty much for bonefish destinations but also catch permit, small snapper, small blacktips... Store them by type of fly - streamer, shrimp, crab, worm, baitfish, flesh... Might be the best but you'd still need some sub-classifications for big streamers vs small streamers; floating streamers vs the fast sinking depth charges; fresh water vs salt water baitfish... There's no easy answer. It's Pandoras dilemma. My head hurts, I'm hearing voices, I can't stand it....

It was so much fun to read these comments AFTER I got back. Thanks to all of you that made them!… and Doug, I have no idea how to keep track of flies. It gets worse each year and I've surrendered to the sorting process.
