FISH XXI: Southwest Montana... Day 2

On Day 2 in SW Montana, we left our comfortable digs at Healing Waters Lodge to fish a private pond in the morning. The pond was simply amazing! It was loaded with scuds and baitfish... and huge 'bows and browns to 30 inches!! We walked the shore sightfishing the big trout with long leaders, sow bug patterns and unweighted wooley buggers. It was just like bonefishing... as much hunting as fishing.
After that gluttony, we fished the Beaverhead and a small spring creek running into the Beaverhead that was on the same property. Good numbers of big browns were gobbling hoppers from the cut banks...
It was a great day!

  1. You're really starting to piss me off! That fish in the third picture requires four hands to hold it. Who does that and then posts pictures to mock those of us who can't? You worked for the Spanish Inquisition in a former life, didn't you?

  2. That's payback for buying a home with a river in front!
I hope I get an invite to visit!
In all seriousness, I saw 30" trout that day! It was like bonefishing. Big trout in 12" of water!
