Tag #1 Tarpon Recaptured on the Yucatan

This is cool!
I just received this e-mail from Doug Jeffries concerning the recapture of TAG #1 tarpon on the west coast of the Yucatan at Campeche. I thought the readers of this blog would find the details interesting. The fish was first caught by Doug in 2012!

I wanted to let you guys know about the recapture of the tag # 1 of our universe of 600 tags placed in Campeche. This is the second recapture but the one with more time span. Please read the attached file for detailed info.
This tag was placed by Aaron Adams of the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust on the first day of tagging. it is indeed the tag # MXT00001. WE DID RECAPTURE 1 MILE AWAY FROM THE ORIGINAL PLACE, THREE YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS LATER. 11 INCHES LARGER.+

Hope this info helps for the research.
Raul.

Here is Doug's reaction. It would be mine too!
"This is one of the coolest things that's happened to me in a long time.  This tagged fish was the first one Aaron Adams and I caught back in November 2012.  Aaron went down with me to set up the tagging program and teach Raul's guides the procedures.  I don't recall who was on the deck first (I'm thinking it was me but could be wrong).  We tagged a lot of fish over the four days.  I didn't copy the record sheet but I am pretty sure this fish was a rio fish, so smaller than the typical outside fish.  I bet is was maybe 10 lbs.  I don't know the length when caught but probably in the upper 20 inch range.  So now it must be in the upper 30 inch range.  Very interesting it stayed in the area for over 3 years now."
