Painting from Fly Fishing in Saltwaters Cover

I recently received an e-mail from Captain Marco Ruz who owns and operates Tarpon Cay Lodge which is strategically located on the west side of the Yucatan Peninsula. I've fished this area numerous times for baby tarpon and love the fishing and the people. We've also been sending clients to Tarpon Cay Lodge for years with great results. Anyway... Marco told me his partner, Jesus Mena, did a painting from the cover of an old issue of Fly Fishing in Saltwaters (see cover below) and that he had sent the painting to me.

When I got the painting, I was delighted and ran downstairs to see if I still had a copy of the issue. I did (wouldn't you keep a copy if you were on the cover of Fly Fishing in Saltwaters?)! This was a very nice thing for them to do and I feel quite honored! I want to thank both Jesus and Marco for sending me the painting. They are great people and have a loyal following of dedicated baby tarpon anglers. Give the spot a try sometime!

Here is the e-mail from Marco:

Hi, Scott just checking in. I send to you a nice Jesus (Jesus Mena) paint  he did special for you. You will like it!!
Thanks friend! I send the paints by UPS, we want to thank you for all your suport and for believe in us! Many many thanks!
I hope you enjoy the paint!

Again guys, I'm honored. Thanks Jesus and thanks for the kind words Marco! It is very much appreciated!

  1. Very nice. Have to put a nice frame on that and hang it above the fire place.

  2. Very nice of Marco and Jesus. I am very honored!
